We are honored to have co-organized two meaningful sessions at the Asia and the Pacific Food Systems Transformation Forum 2026, hosted by the Asian Development Bank, where the future of food in our region took center stage. From youth leadership to the flavors of the season, this forum reminded us that transforming food systems begins not with policy documents or technological innovations alone, but with people, culture, and community. Our participation in this landmark event reflects AGREA's enduring commitment to amplifying young voices, celebrating local food heritage, and building bridges between tradition and innovation in the pursuit of sustainable, equitable food systems across Asia and the Pacific.

The first session we co-organized, "ASEAN Youth Initiatives for Sustainable Food Systems: Advancing Healthy Diets and Climate Action," brought together young leaders from across Southeast Asia who are already shaping the future of food in their communities. We witnessed powerful stories of innovation from climate-smart agriculture projects that help farmers adapt to changing weather patterns, to digital platforms that connect small producers directly to consumers, to community-based food systems that prioritize nutrition and cultural relevance. These young changemakers are not waiting for permission to lead; they are acting, experimenting, and inspiring others to join them. The launch of the ASEAN Youth Pledge on Sustainable Food Systems marked a unified call for affordable, safe, and nutritious food for all, demonstrating that when youth unite around a shared vision, their collective voice becomes impossible to ignore.

Complementing this forward-looking dialogue, we also co-organized the "Lasa ng Panahon – Taste the Season" Reception Dinner and Chefs Showcase, a celebration of local ingredients, seasonal cooking, and the stories of the farmers who grow our food. This culinary experience was more than a meal; it was a reminder that food is culture, memory, and connection. When chefs prepare dishes using ingredients sourced directly from smallholder farmers, they honor the labor, knowledge, and care that goes into every harvest. When guests taste these dishes, they participate in a food system that values provenance, sustainability, and fairness. This session embodied our belief that transforming food systems requires both policy change and cultural shift—both youth advocacy and culinary celebration.

Throughout the forum, one message resonated clearly: the future of food systems is already here, and it is being led by the next generation. Young leaders across the region are revitalizing local food systems by reconnecting communities with traditional crops and farming practices. They are promoting healthy diets by making nutritious food accessible, affordable, and appealing to their peers. They are bridging traditional knowledge with innovation, honoring the wisdom of elders while embracing new technologies that enhance productivity and sustainability. And they are building resilient communities that can withstand climate shocks, economic disruptions, and social inequities. The inaugural ADB Youth Awards recognized outstanding changemakers whose work exemplifies this leadership, proving that youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are the partners of today.

We are grateful to the Asian Development Bank for the trust and partnership that made our participation in this forum possible. ADB's commitment to creating platforms for youth engagement, for celebrating local food cultures, and for advancing sustainable food systems aligns deeply with AGREA's mission to empower farmers, strengthen communities, and transform agriculture in the Philippines and beyond. Through this partnership, we are able to amplify the voices of young Filipino leaders on a regional stage, share lessons from our work with women food producers and regenerative farming, and connect with innovators across Asia who are reimagining what food systems can become.

The momentum from this forum does not end here. There is a growing and urgent call to expand youth platforms across Asia and the Pacific, to strengthen youth networks and collaboration, and to invest meaningfully in youth-led agrifood innovations. Young people need more than recognition; they need resources, mentorship, policy support, and access to finance to scale their ideas and deepen their impact. Institutions, governments, and development partners must move beyond token inclusion and create genuine pathways for youth leadership in food systems governance, research, and enterprise. This is not just an investment in young people; it is an investment in the resilience, equity, and sustainability of our shared food future.

As we reflect on this forum, we recommit to our role in nurturing youth leadership in agriculture. Through AGREA Farm School, our Women Food Producers Association, and our community-based training programs, we continue to equip young people with the skills, confidence, and networks they need to thrive as agricultural entrepreneurs and advocates. We believe that when youth see farming as a viable, innovative, and meaningful career path, they bring fresh energy, creative solutions, and unwavering passion to the challenges facing our food systems. And when we listen to their ideas, support their initiatives, and amplify their voices, we all benefit from the transformation they are already leading.

To the young leaders we met at the ADB Forum: we see your potential, we believe in your vision, and we stand with you in this essential work. To our partners at the Asian Development Bank: thank you for creating spaces where youth, culture, and policy can converge to drive meaningful change. To the farmers, chefs, and communities whose stories we shared: your labor, your creativity, and your resilience are the foundation of everything we do. Together, we are building food systems that nourish people, protect the planet, and honor the dignity of all who contribute to feeding our region.

The future of food is being written now and it is being led by the next generation. We are honored to walk alongside them, to learn from them, and to support them as they shape a more sustainable, equitable, and delicious future for all.
